The dancing community is a place for growth and people are more than welcome to join. In fact the community conducts numerous activities for every dancer and aspirants to participate in.
For one, aspiring dancers can sign up for beginner’s classes and workshops. Believe me when I say that dance classes outside schools are a hundred percent better and more enjoyable. Why, you ask?
- There are more choices of dance styles to choose from, so you can specialize yourself — or explore as much as you want.
- Choreographers will be more than happy to help you learn through a routine.
- The dancing community (outside schools) does not tolerate judgement, rather push for encouragement.
- You get to learn techniques from different dancers, which are not taught at schools.
- Other beginners will be there to learn and grow with you along the way.
For those who have already been dancing, there’s much more in store than you could possibly imagine. You’d think all there is to dancing is recitals, intermissions, competitions, and classes. If you’ve been dancing for quite a while but haven’t accustomed yourself to the dancing community, you’re in for surprise.
So what are the things you’ve been missing out?
1. Dance Battles
What a better way to challenge yourself than having to battle other dancers. Dance battles are a great way to hang out with other dancers as well as assess your own skills. The typical scenario usually have the battlers in the middle of a circle of a crowd. Battles are commonly specific to a dance style, but there are what we call “all styles” and it’s pretty self-explanatory.
But what you should take note before joining one is that you’re not in classes anymore and it will test your resiliency. Bring the hype and the crowd will respond. Also dance battles last for hours, and the more you win, the more you have to stay in the “circle”.
2. Jams/Cyphers
There’s practically not much difference to jamming through music and jamming through dance, aside from the instruments. Depending on the style, a playlist of music will be played for hours on end where you simply dance and hang out with others. Like other activities, jams are done in a circle and anyone who wants to dance can go in the middle — one by one. Everyone would also be there to back you up and hype you through the dance.
So go out of your comfort zone and step up your game!
